American meteorological society

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) is a global community committed to advancing weather, water, and climate science and service. Founded in 1919, AMS has a membership of more than 12,000 professionals, professors, students, and weather enthusiasts. AMS publishes 11 atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic journals — in print and online — sponsors more than 12 conferences annually, and offers numerous programs and services. I currently serve as the incoming Commissioner for Professional Affairs, one of 6 commissions of the AMS that report directly to the AMS Council.

animal humane society

Every year Animal Humane Society cares for more than 22,000 animals in need and helps thousands more through programs for people and pets. The four Twin Cities adoption centers are more than just a great place to find and adopt the perfect pet. Friendly animal experts at each location offer services and support for every stage of an animal’s life. Plus, we work with individuals and organizations across Minnesota and beyond, advocating for the health and safety of animals, no matter where they are.

For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists. Over the past 30 years Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), has managed the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. We work every day to save lives through transplant.

For decades, the library has stood as a gathering point for those in the queer community. It increasingly has become seen as a community event space for the LGBTQIA+ community in Minneapolis/St. Paul and beyond. The library hosts meetings, book author readings, and countless clubs. The community room is frequented by countless organizations, and we’re always finding new ways to broaden this engagement.

Red heart soiree, benefitting the university of minnesota foundation

Red Heart Soirée is the signature fundraising event benefiting cardiovascular research, education and patient care at the University of Minnesota. Heart disease has had huge impact on my family, taking my grandfather (and namesake) while he was still in his 40s, decades before I was born. I am honored to co-emcee the 2021 benefit gala with my WCCO Saturday Morning co-anchor, Jennifer Mayerle.
